Loop Reactor

Venturi Loop Reactors are a specialized reactor technology which use Ejectors for carrying out chemical reactions at an accelerated rate.

Venturi Ejectors which are essentially a Liquid gas Ejector are used in Venturi Loop Reactor to make the liquid and gas interact more intimately with one other maximizing the gas liquid interfacial area.

A Venturi Loop Reactor consists of two components

  • 1. Venturi Ejector
  • 2. Reactor

During operation liquid and gas from the reactor is continuously recirculated through the Venturi Ejector back into the reactor. A Liquid pump pumps the liquid from the reactor to the Venturi Ejector. The Ejector uses the energy from the pumped liquid to create a pressure differential across its suction & outlet. This allows the Venturi Ejector to create a low pressure zone in its suction. Due to this low pressure zone gas from the reactor is sucked into the Venturi Ejector. This sucked gas mixes with the Pumped liquid inside the Ejector. Due to the high turbulent area inside the Ejector the gas gets dispersed inside the liquid in form of fine bubbles or the liquid gets dispersed into the gas in form of small drops.

The formation of bubbles and drops maximizes the gas-liquid interfacial area. In addition to maximizing the interfacial area, the high velocities and induced shear maximizes the mass and heat transfer rates.

This highly reactive gas-liquid mixture is injected back into the reactor through the Venturi Ejector outlet. The outlet speeds are carefully chosen to disperse the gas liquid mixture throughout the reactor.

Continued circulation ensures that the liquid completely reacts with the gas thus completing the reaction.

The accelerated mass transfer & heat transfer ensures faster reaction time and low reaction volume requirement.

The Venturi Ejector is the crux of the Loop Reactor. Naturally designing the Venturi Ejector is the most important part of the Loop Reactor.
